April Fools Day: Healthy Skepticism

As Amy Gahran points out: April Fools brings a certain skepticism to everything we read. I know I've been duped almost every year since 2004. I almost hate April Fools because the Internet turns into what can only be described as "a silly place."

Still - it's good that we bring a certain skepticism to our reading on April Fools. As this Twitter post explains beautifully, we should remain this critical about what we read every day. I can't imagine better context to pitch NewsTrust in than on a day when even Google is trying to fool us.

At last, it all ties together! I just spotted on Twitter the most likely reason why I adore both journalism and April Fool’s Day, courtesy of blogger Prentiss Riddle.

What I like about April Fool's Day: one day a year we're asking whether news stories are true. It should be all 365.

(Thanks to David Sasaki of Global Voices Online for the tip.)

Glad you liked it, David. Did you also see that the LA Times switched to an all-wiki format?

;-)
